Coastal humidity makes Central Coast roofs a garden. Knowing what's up there matters, because each one does different damage:

• ✔️Moss — holds water against the surface like a wet sponge; accelerates tile porosity and traps debris in valleys
• ✔️Lichen — bonds into the surface; pulling it off takes tile coating with it, which is why we kill it at the root first
• ✔️Black algae — the dark streaking on southern faces; mostly cosmetic but feeds the others
• ✔️Leaf litter — blocks water paths and composts into the growth bed everything else loves

Roof cleaning isn't a beauty treatment — it's the front end of your home's drainage system. Everything we wash off a roof was previously washing into your gutters a little at a time: moss mats that dam valleys, lichen grit that settles in gutter runs, leaf compost that holds water against fascia boards. A proper clean (with gutters cleared as part of the job, always) resets the whole water path. It's also why we photograph what we find up there — the roof tells you what the next five years of maintenance look like, if someone's actually looking.
